PPC’s NFL Civil War: Arizona (PPC Southwest) vs Seattle (PPC Northwest)
In this final week of the season, both PPC local favorite NFL teams the Seattle Seahawks (representing Penington’s Northwest division) will play the Arizona Cardinals (representing Penington’s Southwest division) in a game with some actual playoff ramifications.
Both teams have already clinched a spot in the playoffs, but their playoff seedings are still in the air.
Here is a breakdown of the playoff scenarios for both teams headed into Sunday’s final tilt:
Arizona: The Cardinals can clinch home field advantage throughout the playoffs with a win and a Carolina Panthers loss. The Panthers are at home in North Carolina playing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, a 6-9 team that has dropped 3 straight and has nothing to play for. In these two teams previous meeting, the Panthers handily won, 37-23.
Seattle: The Seahawks have clinched a wildcard birth in the playoffs, and will be seeded either 5th or 6th in the NFC playoffs. The Seahawks will be the 5th seed if they win against the Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers beat the Minnesota Vikings. If the Seahawks lose, or if the Vikings end up beating the Packers, then Seattle is locked into the 6th seed.
For your rooting interests, Seattle fans should be rooting for Green Bay to win, and Arizona fans should be rooting for Tampa Bay to win.
There is a decent chance that our two local football teams meet once more in the playoffs. The Cardinals will have a bye in the first week of the playoffs regardless, but if Seattle is able to win their first round matchup, the team in store for them will either be Arizona or Carolina.
In either case, its a great thing that both teams that Team PPC holds near and dear are headed to the playoffs, and thus still in the hunt for the ultimate prize.
